On May 7, Janja Lula da Silva—the First Lady of Brazil and a prominent advocate for sustainable development who initiated the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty—visited HSE University. She held a meeting with HSE University Rector Nikita Anisimov, where they explored promising avenues for strengthening Russia–Brazil collaboration in science and education. HSE University also hosted a round table discussion titled ‘The Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty as a Key to Modern International Cooperation,’ featuring Janja Lula da Silva as a distinguished guest.

Results of Second International Academic Cooperation Competition Announced
The International Academic Cooperation (IAC) competition aims to promote international academic partnerships, broaden research agendas, and foster interdisciplinary approaches. It also encourages students, including doctoral students at HSE University, to participate in joint basic research projects.

HSE University Signs Cooperation Agreements with Leading Chinese Universities
On May 8, 2025, in Moscow, in the presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, strategic agreements were signed between the HSE University and two of China's top institutions, Peking University and Tsinghua University. The event was attended by Nikita Anisimov, Rector of HSE University, Qiu Yong, Secretary of the CPC Tsinghua University Committee, and Gong Qihuang, President of Peking University. The signing unfolded during the official visit of the Chinese delegation to Russia, coinciding with the commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of Victory Day.
‘The Trip Exceeded All Our Expectations’: HSE Students Take Part in BRICS Youth Innovation Summit 2025
The BRICS Youth Innovation Summit 2025 was held in Cape Town on April 10–11, 2025. The event was attended by political and business leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. The summit focused on the theme ‘Innovating the Future: Technology for Sustainability and Social Good,’ under which the participants presented their projects. HSE Scientists Win Prestigious International Prize in Fundamental Physics
The 2025 Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics has been awarded to the international collaborations of experiments at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, including the LHCb collaboration, in which researchers from HSE University have participated.

The Digital Professors Programme: Five Years of Developing International Academic Collaboration
For the past five years, the Digital Professors programme has successfully brought leading international experts from foreign educational and research institutions, global companies, and organisations to HSE University to teach in a remote format. HSE Days in Ghana: How the University Attracts Talents and Expands Cooperation with Africa
In March 2025, HSE Days took place in the Ghanaian capital of Accra, the cultural hub of Kumasi, and the Bono East region. Russian and Chinese Scholars Share Experience of Transformation of Doctoral Education
The Russian and Chinese postgraduate education systems originally borrowed their institutional frameworks from the Soviet Union. However, in the 21st century, they have evolved along different paths. While key performance indicators for postgraduate programmes in Russia are declining, China is seeing a rapid increase in the number of postgraduate students. These contrasting trajectories and the reforms undertaken in each country in recent decades were the focus of a roundtable discussion held as part of the 25th Yasin (April) International Academic Conference.

Trends, Risks, and Opportunities in Bank Lending Discussed at ICEF
On March 26, the 14th Research Seminar on Economic Studies, titled ‘Bank Lending: Trends, Risks, and New Opportunities,’ was held at HSE ICEF. The seminar gathered participants from Russian banks and professors from leading universities in Russia, the US, China, and the Netherlands. Key topics included the development of the banking sector, environmental factors in lending, the impact of managerial competencies on loan quality, prudential regulation and financial stability, and credit risks and strategies.

HSE Expands Cooperation with Gulf Countries
HSE University and the Centre for International Policy Research (Qatar) have agreed to collaborate in the field of social sciences, with plans for joint research, academic exchanges, and regular expert engagement. The agreement was signed during the roundtable ‘State Capacity and State Resilience in the Global South,’ held as part of the 25th Yasin (April) International Academic Conference at HSE University.
