GRADUATION'24: HSE Art and Design School at the Zaryadye Exhibition
On October 11, 2024, the third exhibition GRADUATION'24 opened at the Parking Gallery of Zaryadye Park. More than 200 promising artists from 22 Moscow institutions are participating in the event. The exhibition features various works from modern painting to computer games created by graduates of different tracks of HSE Art and Design School.
The first GRADUATION took place at Zaryadye in 2022 and became a unique event that introduced a new generation of artists of various genres and directions: from historical and academic painting to conceptual installations and new media. This year's exposition brought together degree projects of those who graduated from Moscow art and architectural universities in the summer of 2024. Graduate works from HSE Art and Design School feature paintings, graphics, ceramics, furniture, clothing collections, animation, and computer games.
Three graduates of the Fashion programme presented selected outfits from their collections. Daniil Kapelkin reflects on a person who confronts personal and global challenges and cogitates about life in Russia in his collection ‘People of Eternal Winter.’ Asiata Septel has created a collection of clothing based on the study of postcolonial discourse of the 20th–21st centuries, in which she reflects on the topic of exoticisation and dehumanisation of the ‘other.’ Kirill Ostanin's ‘It Must Change’ collection represents a discussion about the experience of exclusion from social majority, total uselessness, and abandonment.
The Object and Industrial Design track is represented by three projects at the exhibition. Iraida Razenkova’s series of objects, ‘Dumochki,’ portrays her thoughts, proverbs, and sayings through the physical form of pillows. The main mission of the ‘May’ brand, created by Valeria Orlova, is sharing memories and reminding people of pleasant childhood moments. Another project by Valeria features a series of photographs revealing the meaning of the ‘May’ brand through an image of the heroine—a modern city dweller.
The Contemporary Art track features three works at the exhibition. Polina Shtanko's ceramic objects from the ‘Paradise Lost’ collection act as a metaphor for a lost home. Polina Belikova's graphic series is dedicated to the theme of sadness. In the FLOWERS triptych Alika Galimova reflects on beauty and its place in our life.
This year’s graduates of the master's programme in Modern Painting exhibit two works. Elena Bogatyreva's PAINTINGS 24 HOURS highlights the artistic gesture of an author who sells advertisements for paintings instead of the painting itself. A series of paintings by Alina Svetkina, ‘White Dream,’ made only in white paint represents dreams that never existed, but seem to have been.
The project ‘Emotional Landscape’ by Vladislava Lvovich, graduate of the Photography track, is dedicated to living traumatic events through contemplation of the surrounding world.
This exhibition features three animated films by graduates of the Animation and Illustration track. Anastasia Polyakova's film fig tells the story of a girl living on a fig tree that burns down. Daria Kanaeva follows the story of two unicorns on Noah's Ark who decide to break up. Maria Morozova's reasoning cartoon Spiral explains the concept of the fractals of destiny, the lightness of being, and homesickness.
Guests of GRADUATION’24 can also enjoy playing games created by graduates of the Game Design track. Anna Shunevich and Ekaterina Rakhmatullina developed the game ‘GAWA,’ in which baby Gawa searches for his family after an earthquake. The designers Elizaveta Kozlova, Polina Nikitina, Alexey Demin, and Tatyana Plekhanova developed a shooter ‘Green Revival,’ where players take on the role of a plant spirit seeking to bring life and greenery back to Earth.
The exhibition is open from October 10 to December 8 at the Parking Gallery of Zaryadye Park. Opening hours: Monday—14:00–20:00, Tuesday to Sunday—10:00–20:00.
Tickets are required to visit the exhibition.
