Seminar 'Measuring Competition from Transitions'

IIMS HSE Seminar: "Measuring competition from transitions: 'An application to the withdrawal of competitors from the online travel agency Russian market in 2022'" will be held on May 22 at 4pm Moscow time (GMT+3).

Abstract: 

Understanding the strength of competition between market players is a key feature of industrial economics and competition policy. We explore the use of ecological forecasting with economic theory to estimate a structural model of diversion between players based on transition matrix, using data on market shares only. The method is used to estimate the effect of international online travel agencies platforms exit from the Russian market in March, 2022. Our results indicate that market relevance before the restrictions does not predict gains from competitor restrictions.
